(Brussels, June 1 2013 ) On Saturday afternoon, around 1000 people gathered at Place Luxembourg in Brussels in support of the Occupy Gezi protests taking place in Istanbul, Ankara and other cities in Turkey. Turkish and international supporters from Brussels and around Belgium came together to express to their families, friends and fellow country men in Turkey that the international community stands behind them. What started on May 27th with a demonstration against the destruction of one of the few remaining parks in Istanbul (Gezi Park) turned into a worldwide uprising for democracy, and against an oppressive government, police violence and media censorship in Turkey.
