DESCRIPTIONS of the Short Term Camps
SHORT TERM General Information:
All Short Term Camps (STC) last two weeks with fixed dates
There can be Co – Camp Leader(s)
Besides the main project there will be time for sharing education with
Cambodian volunteers and language learning/ culture exchange and other activities
Volunteers have to be 18 years or older
No special skills are required, only positive motivation and being open minded
Living conditions will be in Cambodian style (willingness to adapt and enjoy simple conditions of living)

Andong , Phnom Penh

Andong community is a community where people are moved from difference slum areas in Phnom Penh and it located in Andong village. Andong community is divided into three parts. They are Andong I, Andong II, and Andong III. As people in these communities used to live in the slum areas so that they do not care about living environment or making the communities clean therefore, the environment in these three communities really need to clean otherwise, it will be worse for the people health especially, children. Beside the environment of the communities, education is another major problem for children and young people that need to be solve or raising awareness. The children and young people are not going to school because their parents need them to look after their younger sisters or brothers at home when they are out for work.
Aims of the project:
Raise awareness among young people and local people about the value of education for their future life
Promote local people participation in cleaning community and make them more understanding about the affect of environment on their health.
Promote young people participation and understanding about International voluntary service especially workcamp
Exchange culture between local people and international volunteers
Project Activities:
Learning Part: During the workcamp, all participants will learn about the differences of culture, International team working, share and exchange knowledge and skills, and experience the real life of Cambodian local people.
Working Part: In this project, international and local volunteers will work with local people on cleaning communities and organizing an event to promote education and raising awareness on environment. Volunteers will also teach English to students at local school and playing with the children in center.
Accommodation:
All local and International volunteers will stay at the children center for this two weeks workcamp.
Participation fee:
Cambodian Youth Action (CYA) is a non-governmental organization which has no support from any funding agencies so all participants are required to pay the participation fee. The participation fee will cover food, accommodation, and project expenses. The participation fee will be €165 Euro.
Location: Andong community, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Meeting Point: All volunteers will be picked up at Phnom Penh International Airport on January 7th 2010 at 4:00 pm (latest).

Khmer Village, Kg. Thom

Khmer village is a place created by a Singaporean woman for showing tourist about Cambodian people life in the past and Khmer architecture of building the house. Although, this place is open for tourist but it worth for local people because it provides job for local people. There is a training center for local people to learn and make recycling product and handicraft. The center is building two classes room for local children and students learning English and Chinese so they need volunteers to do this job.
Khmer village is located in the north of Phnom Penh about 150 km and it takes about 2 hours to get there by bus.
Aims of the project:
The project aims to:
Promote the idea of voluntary service among young people especially workcamp
Promote inter-cultural learning between local volunteers, international volunteers and local people
Build long lasting relationship among local and international volunteers and exchange knowledge and experience
Promote value of education to local people through art activity
Project activities: in this project you will do the following activities
Teaching English to local students
Painting picture on the classrooms wall
Creating school garden
Join local people activities
Accommodation: Khmer village’s home stay
Participation fee:
