Some hundreds farmers, environmental activists, scientists and other concerned citizens stood up to liberate a Belgian field trial with genetically modified potatoes. The action succeeded and opened a debate on gmo’s and the (in)dependence of research from industry interests. But also the non-violent direct action of the Field Liberation Movement was heavily criminalized by gentech scientists, politicians and mainstream media. Damaging property seems to be a difficult issue in Belgian society.
