Een wereld zonder MONSANTO is mogelijk!
Op 12 november vindt tussen 11u en 14u op de Kouter in Gent een belangrijk protestfeest plaats. Tal van wetenschappers, organisaties uit het maatschappelijk middenveld, activisten, mensen uit de culturele sector, vakbonden, burgers en politici verzamelen dan om te laten zien en horen dat ze leugens zoals verspreid door de agrochemische industrie niet slikt. Het huidige industriële landbouwmodel laat zien dat het niet in staat is de wereld te voeden, vervuilt ecosystemen via grootschalig gebruik van pesticiden en kunstmest en put de aarde uit. Dat terwijl volgens tal van experts een meer duurzame landbouw de groeiende wereldbevolking kan voeden, zonder toekomstige generaties het leven onmogelijk te maken.
In de Handelsbeurs vindt op datzelfde moment een verjaardagsfeest plaats waarbij het Vlaams Instituut Biotechnologie “30 jaar agro-biotechnologie” viert, in aanwezigheid van topmannen van de agro-chemiereuzen Monsanto en Dupont.
De leugen die we niet slikken is dat we GGOs nodig hebben om de wereld te voeden. De mythe die we doorprikken is dat er een wetenschappelijke consensus rond GGO’s bestaat. Een eis die we stellen is dat de overheden gemeenschapsgeld investeren in alternatieven voor de industriele landbouw en de verdere privatisering en commercialisering van wetenschappelijk onderzoek tegen gaat.
Aan iedereen die zich verzet tegen een verdere privatisering van het leven en een machtige greep op ons voedsel, aan iedereen die gelooft in een eerlijkere en duurzamere landbouw: kom naar Gent en vier met ons mee!

Un monde sans MONSANTO est possible!
Le 12 Novembre, entre 11 heures et 14 heures, une importante fête de protestation aura lieu au Kouter à Gand. De nombreux scientifiques, des organisations venues de la société civile, des activistes, des personnes du secteur culturel, des syndicats, des agriculteurs et des politiciens se réunissent pour faire voir et entendre leur indignation face aux mensonges propagés par l’industrie agrochimique. Le modèle actuel d’agriculture industrielle démontre de plus en plus qu’il est incapable de nourrir le monde, qu’il pollue les écosystèmes par l’usage massif d’engrais et de pesticides et épuise la terre. Parallèlement, de nombreux experts affirment qu’il est possible de nourrir la population mondiale croissante en utilisant une agriculture durable, sans rendre impossible la vie des générations futures.
Au même moment, au Handelsbeurs, aura lieu une fête d’anniversaire organisée par l’Institut Flamand de Biotechnologie. ‘3O ans d’agro-biotechnologie’ y sont célébrés, en prèsence de dirigeants de deux entreprises agro-chimiques : Monsanto et Dupont.
Le mensonge que nous ne parvenons pas à avaler, c’est l’affirmation selon laquelle les OGM’s seraient inévitable pour nourrir le monde. Le mythe du consensus favorable autour des OGM’s doit être percé à jour. Nous avons une exigence : c’est que les gouvernements investissent de l’argent public dans des alternatives à l’agriculture industrielle et qu’ils stoppent la fuite en avant de la privatisation et de la commercialisation de la recherche scientifique.
Pour quiconque s’oppose à la privatisation du vivant et à la mainmise du privé sur notre nourriture, à tout ceux qui croient en une agriculture plus équitable et durable : ‘Venez à Gand et faites la fête avec nous !’
Venez le 12 novembre 2013, au Kouter 29, 9000 Gand – 11h-14h: Grande Fête de Protestation avec stands d’information, de la soupe chaude et des histoires, des pommes de terres biologiques, de la musique (Collieman, Tom Kestens, Jaune Toujours,… ), des interventions de scientifiques, d’écrivains, des ONG’s, d’agriculteurs et de politiciens,…
On peut facilement atteindre le Kouter depuis la Gare de Gand Sint-Pierre, en allant jusqu’à Korte Meer avec le tram 1 (direction Evergem).

A world without Monsanto is possible!
An important protest party is happening on Tuesday 12th November in the centre of Ghent. Between 11am and 2pm Scientists, civil society organisations, people from the cultural sector, trade unions, activists and others, will come together to show that they do not swallow the lies propagated by the agrochemical industry. We have seen that the current industrial agriculture model does not help us to feed the world, but instead pollutes ecosystems through its heavy use of fertilizers and pesticides and depletes the soil. Many experts believe that it is possible to feed the growing world population using sustainable agriculture without rendering impossible the live of the future generations.
At the same time, the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology has decided to organise a birthday party to celebrate ” 3O years of agro- biotechnology ” in the presence of leaders of two major agrochemical companies: Monsanto and Dupont .
We don’t swallow their lie that we need GM crops to feed the world. We need to bust the myth that there is scientific consensus in favour of GMOs. We demand that governments invest public money in alternatives to industrial agriculture and stop acting in the interests of a handful of companies by continuing to further the privatisation and commercialisation of scientific research.
For anyone who opposes the privatisation of life and the agro-industry taking control of our food; for all those who want to see a fair and sustainable agricultural system : “Come to Ghent and party with us “
We’ll meet on Tuesday 12th November, 2013 at the Kouter 29 (Ghent city centre) – 11am-2 pm : Big Protest Party with information stalls, music (Collieman, Tom Kestens, Jaune Toujours …) , contribution from scientists, writers, NGO ‘s, farmers and politicians, hot soup and stories, organic potatoes and more…
It’s easy to get to the Kouter from Ghent St. Pieter’s station, just take tram 1 in the direction of Evergem (stop Korte Meer).
